Learn more about the Executive Director
She was a high school teacher for 31 years and taught in the Toronto Catholic District School Board. In her spare time, she volunteered in many different areas. In school, she organized a social justice and environment club, organized an annual community Christmas dinner for hundreds of disadvantage families and an annual social awareness day. For over 40 years she volunteered at a weekly community social club for developmentally challenged adults which she founded with a small group of friends. Added to these activities, with Mons. Hernan Astudillo in the late 1990’s, they started the annual Inti Raymi Festival for the exposition of traditional Latin American folk music, dance and foods. They continued on to establish the San Lorenzo Community and created the San Lorenzo Latin American Community Centre, CHHA 1610 AM, Radio Voces Latinas and the Caravan of Hope Global Aid, all in the early 2000’s. These organizations were all developed with one aim, to meet the needs of a new immigrant population in their settlement and integration into the Canadian mosaic. By accessing information about a variety of government and social services, people were given the knowledge to address their own journeys. As a founding member, she became part of the volunteer Board of Directors for the San Lorenzo Community and has continued on the Board till recently. Upon retirement from teaching four years ago, she has volunteered more of her time at the Centre and is at present the acting Executive Director, hoping to help nurture and grow the Community Centre and the Caravan’s roles in society.
